The importance of this foreshadowing is the actual song playing in the background of that sequence, Last Kiss a song about how a man loses his lover due to a car accident. Now in this sequence, we see Elena first dancing with Stefan, all concerned and worried about Klaus, they are trying to have a good time despite everything. Her turning into a vampire exposed that truth she had been hiding from, due to being afraid.
It’s not as if there weren’t options out there, and Kat Graham has chemistry with practically every major male character she shares the screen with. Fans of the show have paired Bonnie off with nearly anyone—from Stefan to Kol to Klaus to even Kai, the prison world sociopath. Damon has decided to leave town, but through the early episodes of Season 4 seems to be looking for reasons to stay. Meredith Fell seems to be one who convinces him in ‘The Rager’ to stay to help Elena with her transition to Vampire. Indeed, a renewed conflict over ideology and what sort of Vampire Elena will become drives, Damon and Stefan, apart. We can’t say for certain, but Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder don’t seem like the type of people who stay in an unhappy relationship just to save face.
She never once expresses concern for Elena’s safety, even when she’s sired to him. Her concern, at least what we hear from her direct words, register InterracialCupid is about how all of this is impacting Stefan. A lot of people love how Stefan loved Damon above all, but it seemed kinda silly to me.
